WakeStock News
Bomb takes 5th Place!!!!
I only had 1 run on Sunday and didn’t make it to the final 4, but a 3rd place finish in his semifinal heat tied him for 5th place with Trevor Hansen. I had 1 fall on his run, and you can’t fall and advance at this level. Throughout the competition I have always had the biggest air scores. I almost landed on a dock several times this weekend.
The two most commonly asked questions the last two weeks have been.
· Who is Padiwat Jaemjan and where did he come from?
· Never heard of Concrete, is that a real wakeboard?

Leg 1, Detroit Malibu Open
I arrived in Detroit on Tuesday and passed through immigration without a problem. Was picked up by Ten-Eighty Sales Rep Brandon Waters. We had an easy evening and finished the day with dinner.
Wednesday morning they hooked up with a friend of Brandon who had a new Malibu VLX and hit the lake for 2 practice sets. Lunch at Taco Bell and then they went to the local Malibu dealer. I had another set there to show off. For dinner everyone went to Hooters.
Thursday, I helped the Malibu dealer move the boats to the tournament site. Little practice later in the day. All the other riders had arrived at that point. Tournament registration and a party in the evening. An amateur competition was going during the day.
Friday, the Malibu Open – Quake on the Lake got going. Not just a wakeboard competition, but water skiing and drag hydroplane boats going 200+ MPH. The wakeboard completion was 15 riders in Men’s Open. Friday was the semi-Finals and the 15 riders were in 4 heats, with the top 2 riders in each heat advancing to the semi finals.
d0053974_107498.jpg

I rode well but had 1 fall during his run. Had another fall outside of the course trying to rush 1 last trick in before the end of the course. I am going to need a no-fall run to get to the next level. I am confident I have the tricks, now I just have to put them together better for the judges and NO SWIMMING!! Points wise, I had the highest score not to make it to Saturday.

d0053974_108829.jpg

Friday night another party at the event site. Back to the hotel late.
Saturday, Men Wakeboarding was down to 8 riders. Two heats of four riders, and the top two riders in each heat would advance to the finals on Sunday. Not a lot of wakeboarding, but there was always something going on.
d0053974_1085742.jpg

Saturday night, it was back to the hotel early. I and all of the riders sat in the hotel lobby drinking beer bought at 7-Eleven across the street until 5am.
Sunday, the wakeboard finals had Philip Soven come 1st place again.
d0053974_1093017.jpg

Sunday night all the riders had dinner and then went to a movie. So much for the party lifestyle.
Monday, everyone was heading to the airport to fly home. I was flying directly to Toronto. Here is where things got interesting. Ten-Eighty was planning on having several riders and a team going to wakestock. Unfortunately, due to injuries and scheduling problems, no one from Ten Eighty would be there. A back up plan was there, but that fell through as well.
I sits at the airport for a few hours waiting for someone, anyone. Next a taxi to the official tournament hotel. Nobody. A few more hours and frantic e-mails for help, Bomb checked with the Radisson on room rates. $350 USD plus tax. A few more urgent e-mails. Bomb asked the desk again about rooms and explains his situation, the nice Canadians gave him a room for a discounted rate. Total including tax, $330. What a bargain.
Monday night, I stayed awake all night because he thought he was paying too much for sleeping and would try to be awake for the entire 14 hours he had the room.
Tuesday.
Geoff arranged a room at a youth hostel near a university just down the street. Luckily tehy had a single room available and I has been there since then. After I checked in Tuesday afternoon, I have the next 1 ½ days to be a tourist. Checked out the tournament site, and explored Toronto. Dinner at a Thai restaurant Wednesday night, my first Thai since leaving.
Thursday, 2:00 I was due to go to the tournament site, Toronto Island for registration, and then the crazy weekend starts again. As of midnight Toronto time Thursday evening, I haven’t made it back to his room.
Friday. First round of WakeStock. 40 Riders in the Boat tournament. I am also competing in the Rail Jam. You can see more at

Hi everyone
Sorry for the long delay. June started of the wakeboard tournament season and I have been busy traveling.
My first trip was to Japan for two weeks May 30th – June 9th. The Wakayama Waterfest and then to Tokyo for the 1st of the JWBA WakeSeries. It was great to be back in Japan and see all of the friends I have there. Both competitions were fantastic, and WakeSeries was great with me and my good friend Shutaro taking 1st and 2nd place. See what happens when you train at TE!!!
d0053974_17141026.jpg

I arrived back in Bangkok on the 9th, and I thought I would have a 3 week break, but that was not the case as I had to start the VISA process for competition in July, and it all had to be done in 2 weeks. Japanese Visa, Canadian Visa and finally the USA Visa. Lots of paperwork and trips to Bangkok.

June 26th, with all VISA’s completed and passport back in my hands, I made a quick trip to Korea for the 2nd Namyangju Asia Open Wakeboard Championship. Beautiful location and the wakeboarding scene is big in Korea and getting bigger. Concrete’s Korean distributer Jimmy Yook took care of everything.

I arrived back in Bangkok on June 30th, long enough for a little sleep, change of clothes, and then back to the airport on the July 1st for an overnight flight to CWC for the WWA Wakeboard World Series. Shutaro, Tosh4ki and I meet up at the Manila airport at 4:00am. We were roommates for the rest of the week.
d0053974_17153369.jpg

CWC, make your plans for next year!!!!
A great event and would suggest everyone try to make plans for next year. Riders from around the world competing at a perfect, self contained wakeboard Meca. All day, every day there was something going on. I got a chance to go against the big names from the USA, Canada and Australia in the World Series Event.
Qualifying Round had 5 Heats with 4 or 5 riders in each heat. The top 3 in heat would make it to the Quarter Finals. This was probably my worst run of the event, but it was enough for 3rd place into the quarter finals. First time on some of the huge obstacles was not easy. Just getting onto the obstacles was scary.
d0053974_1719035.jpg

Quarter Finals, this was one of my better runs. The quarter finals had 3 Heats with 5 riders each, and the top 4 would advance to the Semi Finals. Lots of big names in my Heat, and I was 2nd to ride after Philip Soven. I was stoked to learn I took 2nd place in the heat behind Superman Soven and I had edged out Shane Bonifay, Keith Lidberg and my friend Aye from Thailand.
I really liked the new format of judging, and you can see how you did and think about future runs.
d0053974_17205462.jpg

Sunday Morning, Semi Finals. Down to the top 12 riders, this would be 4 Heats, with 3 riders in each heat. Top Rider advances to the Finals. 2nd place in each heat would tie for 5th place, and 3rd place in each heat would tie for 9th place. In my heat I was against Keith Lidberg, Dean Smith. I had a great run but I fell on the double up. Unfortunately, against these guys, you CAN NOT FALL!
d0053974_17213268.jpg

I left the Philippines with a huge amount of confidence, a lot of new friends, and a WWA Tour ranking tied for 9th place.
Back to Bangkok, I had 1 week to get ready for the big trip. Nailed a couple W2W Toeside Switch 900’s (video coming soon) and packed my bags. The latest and greatest Concrete Ultema & Ultema Limited were prepared.

I would like to thank Concrete International for their support in helping make this trip, and all the trips to competition possible. Thanks to all of you for supporting the Concrete Brand. I believe the best boards and bindings there is to ride on.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Tokyo in a couple of weeks.
